In the morning on 4th of October at the silent and remoted Várhegyi-quarry something has started to prepare. Many cavers and other supporters have come together helping to Marcel Loubens Cave Researcher Society to organize Geotóp-day.The aim of that national program series was to represent the beauty of geological sciences. Our aim was to introduce people in the underground world’s beauties. To these ones the ideal location was remoted quarry where the cuts have crossed many caves too.We had somelittle proplem with timimg. The first group have arrived earlier and two of us were representing Várhegy’s geology on the surface when they arrived. So we had to hurry and left very short time for the caves. But we have managed to solve this time lag.
Every each group had 3 hours at the quarry. On the surface we firstly presented the local geology and the quarry’s short history. They got to know something about the local, mined out limestones on and under the surface. We presented how to recognize and diagnose different rocks. After a quick and short clothchange we gave a short presentation about caves’s genetic, about caves’s own characteristics which were dissolved by thermal and non thermal water and about the most common mineral compostions in Cave Fecske-lyuk.
We also mentioned possibilities and difficulties about the researches in Fecske-lyuk.Visitors have crawled in narrow and clayfilled paswhile they could notice the signs of thermal water dissolution. We had most time at the last group so they got the most.Lot of visitors were satisfied and they had a good time and mentioned they would return to similar programs in the future.
We had 45 visitors alltogether but not all of them visited the caves.Their guiders were: Ferenc File, Miklós Dolgos and Péter Sűrű
